In 1985, Lanka Medicare company started a private-public partnership with the Faculty of Medicine, University of Colombo and Sri Lankaâs 1st ever Kidney Transplant was performed on the 5th of October 1985 with a team of Surgeons from the University of Colombo. Lanka Medicare became Western Inrmary in 1995 making us the pioneers in Kidney Transplantation and Dialysis in Sri Lanka.
During the last 35 years Lanka Medicare company became WH and by 2015, The company had conducted more than a 1000 transplants and over 100,000 dialysis cases maintaining its position as a leading force in Kidney Transplantation and Hemodialysis in Sri Lanka. Many foreign patients have enjoyed WH services and has been an integral component in making the KT program the most successful medical tourism program in Sri Lanka.
